What Conversation Was Sparked By This Photograph

Cecile White Howard

This is a photograph of my grandmother Cecile White Howard.  It's one of my favorites.  I used of copy of it on one of the first sets of coasters I made.  Despite growing up knowing my grandmother, I didn't know the story behind the photograph.

Once I completed the coaster with her picture on it, I started to hear the story behind it.  Turns out this was Cecile's engagement picture.

Notice the ring on her left hand.

That's her engagement ring. That means this photograph was taken in 1938 before she married James Lester Howard.

The engagement ring?  It graces my right hand as I type this.
